Therapy Tailored To You

My aim is to support you in managing stress, anxiety, relationship issues, low mood and ADHD.  I describe integrative therapy as having a toolbox of therapeutic tools that provide flexibility to tailor therapy to your individual needs. We work at your pace in an environment that is preferred to you, whether that be on video call from the comfort of your home, in my therapy room or walking out in nature.

Walk and Talk Therapy

For some people sitting face to face in an enclosed room, or in front of a screen isn’t a preferred option.

Walk and Talk therapy allows us to venture outside on to the Dorset coast, walking side by side in all weathers, a perfect reflection of our lives and the sun and storms that are inevitable.

Movement, exercise and distraction from solid focus can enable free flowing thoughts and processing, which some people may find harder within the constrains of a traditional meeting, You can even double it up with your daily dog walk.

A Little About Me

I am Natalie and I have been working as an Integrative therapist for 5 years. I once used to work in retail management, which surprisingly ended up being a role in which I felt like an un-qualifed counsellor, but that was my favourite part of the job. So in 2019 I decided to retrain as an Integrative therapist. I have worked for a counselling charity and now work in private practice. I live with my family and love the outdoors, whether that be swimming, snowboarding, kayaking or simply walking along our beautiful coastlines.

I have experienced my own personal journey with counselling, when life has presented it’s unique challenges and so I know first hand how daunting the journey can be, but how rewarding it is when the light starts to lead the way. I consistently find it intriguing how our nervous systems can trick us into believing that remaining where we are is safer, that venturing out and testing growth is scary, that anxiety will choke us at the first hurdle. But nothing is scarier than that anxiety that holds us in place, if we can be brave and push at the door we find that growth releases us. Together we can find courage within the boundaries of a safe and comforting space.

FAQ

How do I go about starting therapy?

I offer a free, no obligation 15 minute video call or phone call so that we can have a chat and you can ask any questions you may have. There is no need to make a decision, it’s important that you find a therapist that feels right for you.

What if I don't know how long I want therapy for?

You don’t have to have the answers, some people want 6 or 10 sessions with a specific goal, some people are unsure. Both are right. You can book 1 session, give it a go and then decide from there.

I have a specific goal I want to achieve in regards to a particular dilemma or issue, how do you work with this?
I don't know if my problems are serious enough to warrant therapy, don't you have to be really unwell?

One of my bug bears is when people say ‘chin up there are people going through much worse’. There is always someone suffering more, but it’s not a competition. There is not a chart to judge people’s suffering. People come to therapy because they feel stuck and it’s making them feel low, or because they have experienced childhood trauma, because they are not getting on with a parent, or because stress is making life less enjoyable, or maybe you feel a block stopping you from achieving your goals. In fact there is not enough room to write all the reasons, none are less significant than the other. You don’t have to fully break to ask for help, and it’s not strong to just carry on and cope alone. We all need each other.

I worry I won't know what to say and where to start?

Let’s start with a hot drink and a Hi? Just see it as a chat, it’s about building trust and I certainly don’t expect you to start sharing intimate details when you’ve only just met me, but also if you do want to that’s absolutely great too.

I am anxious about getting emotional and crying, how do I manage it when I don't like talking about feelings?

This is one of the most common topics I work with in counselling. A large percentage of people feel discomfort in this area and are reluctant to talk about their emotions, a lot of people find even identifying how they feel very difficult, so you are absolutely not alone. Just know that i work with this all of the time, it is not a surprise to me, I am not uncomfortable or judgemental towards whatever you feel or don’t feel. That’s what is unique about counselling, it provides a safe space for you to explore some of this with someone else. I see it as practising in a non-judgmental space which may then give you confidence to take it into your own life. Either way there is no judgement whether you cry or not, both are welcome, and I always have tissues at the ready!
